Vermont had been out grocery shopping, because she realized that she and her boyfriend Alaska were out of milk, sugar, and other such necessities. she had the handles of the bags she were carrying hanging on her arms and she reached with one hand in her pocket and fished out her keys. Their jingling resounded through the still afternoon. she opened the door and realized that Alaska had been waiting for her. He was her boyfriend; and she loved him dearly- but she were also afraid of him.

"Hello" Alaska said to her, in an eerily calm voice. she walked into the kitchen and placed her grocery bags on the counter. It was then that she noticed the evidence of his recent drinking.
"H-hello Alaska" she murmured, happy to see him again.
she had been holding her head down and only now did she dare glance up to look at his face. Where anger resided.
"You were out for quite a while." He paused as he looked at her. "Why was that?"
she could feel her heart quicken and adrenalin start to pump through her veins. she stumbled over her words as she tried to explain to him her actions.
"W-well there was a long line-" she started hastily "An well-- um" The look he was giving her seemed to be one of both hatred and disgust. "But I came home, so there's no need to worry." she finished.
He won't ever let her go a voice in the back of her mind told her.
she looked up at him, fear ripping through her like barbed wire. she sent up a silent prayer. please, oh please God. Don't let him come closer
He stepped out and shortened the distance between them and she sucked in her breath and held it there as her heart raced wildly out of control, the fear becoming a raging beast within herself.
"Vermont you bloody hell better be telling me the truth." He said in an icy voice.
This is all her fault The voice whispered If she were only more reliable or if she could only prove her trust then maybe he would let her go out more. her pathetic being. she can't even make her boyfriend happy The thoughts taunted her and she could feel her eyes water. Don't cry, Don't cry she thought frantically in her head. she know what he thinks about crying. He'll punish her if she do her thoughts circle around the effort it's taking to blink back the tears.
"I-I'm so sorry." she say to him.
When she saw that his features softened she allowed herself to relax ever so slightly. He embraced her with both arms and she stiffened with the touch. "I forgive you, Vermont " he whispered into her ear.

she looked up at her best friend Kentucky. she were at his place and were telling him about all that had been happening between her and Alaska for the past few years. she could hardly believe that it had started that long ago. It felt like yesterday was the first time--yet somehow at the same time it felt as though it had been going on for an eternity.
"you have to listen to me. Okay?" Kentucky said as he looked into her eyes "you need to leave him. He's only going to hurt you more."
Leave him? The thought was preposterous.
"I- I can't" she say ever so softly. "I love him"
"This isn't love!" The anger in Kentucky voice both startles and momentarily scares her until she remember that it's just Kentucky--he would never hurt her. But then again; hadn't she thought so about Alaska at first as well? "Look at herself." Kentucky continued "I'm scared for you well-being and if you don't do something now, things will only get worse!" He looked at her a frantic, concerned expression covering his face.
Is it love? she think to herself, contemplating her relationship with Alaska.
"you've gotta listen to me." Kentucky said gently. "It's because I care about you okay?" With that said he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. she allowed herself to-even if only for a moment- let go of her worries. she felt safe here; in Kentucky embrace.

she had just come home from Kentucky place. she were tired and she made her way to her room where she saw Alaska waiting on her bed.
"Where have you been?" He asked darkly
"Oh- uh, just with a-ah friend." she murmured avoiding his eyes. her heart picked up in pace as the familiar fear settled into it's home within her body. There's no way she can tell him who she were with. she should have just not gone over there. Visiting him was so stupid. Uh! I'm so stupid and worthless. I can't get anything right. her thoughts swirl around her head and her fear starts to intensify as her hands start shaking ever so slightly. she see Alaska stand and make his way towards her.
"Who was her friend?" He asked as he lightly placed a hand upon her cheek.
"Just a friend" she murmured ever so quietly as she look down in submission "does it matter?" she could feel the tears starting to well up within she. Oh nonononono! she think to herself, she not allowed to cry.
Alaska moved his hand to grab a bunch of her hair and he used that to glide it into the wall, earning her a hard smack and a lump. From the amount of pain she knew it would be small enough to hide if she did her hair just right. she felt almost proud of herself, for being able to know how bad her injury was going to be the next day based upon the pain she felt now.
"Of course it matters Vermont you bloody idiot!" He yelled "Who was it?"
"K-Kentucky." she answered with a sob as the first of many tears start to stream down her face.
"What did I tell you about talking to him?" He sneered as he pulled her head up to look at him, her hair still firmly within her grasp. When he saw her face his own twisted into anger. "And crying, what did I tell you about that?"
"I-I'm sorry" she say meekly as she try to stifle her sobs for him.
"Sorry isn't enough, Vermont " He said to her as he dragged her by her hair onto the bed.
"N-no Alaska." she begged "Please no" she pleaded weakly.
He advanced himself upon she, knowing full well his intentions.
He will never let her go the voice said to her.

that night she struggled to fall asleep. The pain that attacked her body kept her from rest. she was completely adorned in bruises and bite marks. she turned over to her other side, trying to become comfortable enough for sleep when she saw Alaska sleeping beside she. He looked  peaceful in this state, but she knew that she should end this.
she stood to her feet, wincing as she placed her weight on her wounded legs. Slowly she walked out of the room.
When she returned she held a knife in her hand.
Is it love? she asked herself.
she started to cry lightly, until sobs started shaking her body.
"I love you Alaska" she said to his sleeping form "But this is for the best"
At that moment his eyes slowly opened.
"What the hell are you doing Vermont?" He asked--still in a mostly sleep filled consciousness.
she hesitated for a moment before bringing the knife down upon Alaska.
His screams of pain filled her ears,he told her to stop--but she didn't listen as she brought the knife down on him once more. she did so repeatedly as she spoke to console herself.
"This is for love, this is for love, this is for love!"
Eventually her little hell stopped as Alaska became silent and his body moved no more. As she gazed up him a stray thought entered her mind. This really was a bloody hell
"But--is this love?" she laughed quietly to herself.
so now I'm alone--with no one to love. she were silent as this thought hit her.
she laid herself back on the bed beside Alaska, and closed his eyes and mouth. He really did look peaceful.
"Don't worry Alaska." she murmured "We'll meet soon, somewhere peaceful" With that said she gently placed the tip of the blade above her own heart, and pressed. Painfully she died next to the person she loved. but was it truly love?

Rain pelted the ground mercilessly as Kentucky gazed upon there graves. He held a bouquet of flowers in his left hand, and in his right an umbrella.
"Why Alaska?" He muttered softly "Why did you do it? She loved you and you shoved it back in her face. I knew you loved her back, but why didn't you show it?" He gently placed the flowers in between the two graves and started to slowly walk away before he decided to turn around and face Alaska's grave one more time. "Secretly" He started "I loved her. And I would have been by her side." With that said he walked away leaving Vermont  behind, finally she were free from the pain.
Just a dark bit of fun
